EDMOND, OK – Support continues to build for conservative Republican for Congress Patrice Douglas with less than six weeks until the August 26 Republican primary runoff. Today, six current Oklahoma mayors, four in the 5th District, joined two former mayors in backing Douglas and praising the former Edmond Mayor for her strong business background, commitment to jobs, and advocacy on behalf of Oklahoma’s small business owners and families.
Douglas was pleased to announce the support of:
• Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett
• Edmond Mayor Charles Lamb
• Bethany Mayor Bryan Taylor
• Lawton Mayor Fred Fitch
• Tecumseh Mayor Eddy Parker
• Ponca City Mayor Homer Nicholson,
• Former Oklahoma City Mayor Ron Norick
• Former Edmond Mayor, Saundra Naifeh
In announcing his support for Douglas, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett commented, “As a former Mayor of Edmond, Patrice Douglas is the best qualified candidate to ensure Oklahoma residents have a voice in Congress. In Oklahoma City, there is no doubt that Patrice understands the responsibility and challenges in fostering a pro-growth environment that attracts good-paying jobs.”
Edmond Charles Lamb remarked, “Patrice has the strong business background necessary to promote an environment ripe for job creation in the Sooner state. She knows that local governing and local solutions are what our conservative principles demand.”
Bethany Mayor Bryan Taylor added, “Local government often produces the best solutions, and that’s the welcome perspective Patrice Douglas will bring to Congress. Patrice is a proven leader who will work to reduce regulations and allow Oklahomans to decide that is best for our cities and towns. In Congress, she will fight to balance the federal budget, and work to get government out of the way. We need Patrice Douglas to bring our conservative Oklahoma values to Washington.”
Douglas commended the local officials for their service and thanked them for their support. “Our mayors are on the frontlines, often best positioned with the solutions that work best for Oklahoma,” said Douglas. “As a former mayor, I know first-hand that Washington does not always know best, and we need to listen to our local mayors and residents to solve our greatest challenges. It is because of these mayors that we have such a business friendly environment. I am grateful for their vocal support of my campaign and commitment to the conservative values we all share – lower taxes, a balanced budget, and smaller government. I am proud to have them by my side as we head to the August runoff, the November election, and beyond to do what is best for Oklahoma and the nation.”
The 5th congressional district Republican primary run-off will occur Tuesday, August 26, 2014.
